About Us

Dee Allen brought Heavy Soul to life in early 2000 with the production of his first independent short film Blessed Burden.  This self-financed project was the beginning of what has now been a very eventful five years for this talented Writer/Director.

Simultaneously actress and long-time friend of Dee’s,  Troy Titus-Adams, had just completed  production on her first short film which she both starred in and co-produced along with talent agent Sandra Boyce and actor Sylvester Williams. Troy sought out Dee’s assistance in post producing the film Simple! which went on to win awards in the UK and abroad.

2001 unfolded with Dee concentrating primarily on writing, creating a body of work to take Heavy Soul forward.   With Troy now on board as producer they formulated the strategy that would make the Heavy Soul ethos come alive.  Later that year the team received funding for their next project and the third incumbent, producer Chris Rayner, joined the ranks just as pre production got underway.

Target, was co-funded by UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund and Film London.  Produced in 2002, this international thriller was part of the regional digital shorts programme set up by the Film Council in order to seek out the filmmakers of tomorrow.  The film featured in festivals both in the UK and abroad, having international success and taking the team to Los Angeles where it was nominated for the Best International Short at the Hollywood Black Film Makers Film Festival in 2004.

Not one to sit on his laurels, Dee wrote the next project and submitted the script to B3 Media’s digital shorts program.  Impressed by their previous work B3 offered them a commission to produce a 10 minute film which was once again funded by UK Film Council’s New Cinema.

Teenage Hero was produced in late 2004.   The turnaround from script to delivery of project was completed within a timeframe of three months, no mean feat for cast and crew!   In February 2005 the film was selected  by distributor Short Circuit Films to be catalogued and is currently being submitted for UK and International Film Festivals.
